Little Nut-brown Hare, who was going to bed, held on tight to Big Nut-brown Hare's very long ears. He wanted to be sure that Big Nut-brown Hare was listening."Guess how much I love you," he said. 它说:“猜猜我有多爱你?”"Oh, I don't think I could guess that," said Big Nut-brown Hare. "This much," said Little Nut-brown Hare, stretching out his arms as wide as they could go. Big Nut-brown Hare had even longer arms. "But I love you this much," he said. Hmm,that is a lot, thought Little Nut-brown Hare. I love you as high as I can reach," said Little Nut-brown Hare. "I love you as high as I can reach," said Big Nut-brown Hare. That is very high, thought Little Nut-brown Hare. I wish I had arms like that. Then Little Nut-brown Hare had a good idea. He tumbled upside down and reached up the tree trunk with his feet."I love you all the way up to my toes!" he said. "And I love you all the way up to your toes," said Big Nut-brown Hare, swinging him up over his head. "I love you as high as I can hop!" laughed Little Nut-brown Hare, bouncing up and down. But I love you as high as I can hop," smiled Big Nut-brown Hare - and he hopped so high that his ears touched the branches above. That's good hopping, thought Little Nut-brown Hare. I wish I could hop like that. I love you all the way down the lane as far as the river," cried Little Nut-brown Hare. "I love you across the river and over the hills," said Big Nut-brown Hare. That's very far, thought Little Nut-brown Hare. He was almost too sleepy to think anymore. Then he looked beyond the thorn bushes, out into the big dark night. Nothing could be farther than the sky. I love you right up to the moon," he said, and closed his eyes. Oh, that's far," said Big Nut-brown Hare.

What can I hold you with?I offer you lean streets, desperate sunsets, the moon of the jagged suburbs.I offer you the bitterness of a man who has looked long and long at the lonely moon.I offer you my ancestors, my dead men, the ghosts that living men have honoured in marble: my father's father killed in the frontier of Buenos Aires, two bullets through his lungs, bearded and dead, wrapped by his soldiers in the hide of a cow; my mother's grandfather -just twentyfour- heading a charge of three hundred men in Perú, now ghosts on vanished horses.I offer you whatever insight my books may hold. whatever manliness or humour my life.I offer you the loyalty of a man who has never been loyal.I offer you that kernel of myself that I have saved somehow -the central heart that deals not in words, traffics not with dreams and is untouched by time, by joy, by adversities.I offer you the memory of a yellow rose seen at sunset, years before you were born.I offer you explanationsof yourself, theories about yourself, authentic and surprising news of yourself.I can give you my loneliness, my darkness, the hunger of my heart; I am trying to bribe you with uncertainty, with danger, with defeat.

The True KnowledgeThou knowest all: —I seek in vainWhat lands to till or sow with seed; The land is black with briar and weed,Nor cares for falling tears or rain.Thou knowest all; —I sit and waitWith blinded eyes and hands that fail,Till the last lifting of the veilThat hangs before God's holy gate.Thou knowest all: —I cannot see;I trust I shall not live in vain:I know that we shall meet againIn some divine eternity.

Love

By Roy CroftI love you,Not for what you are,But for what I amWhen I am with you. I love you,Not only for whatYou have made of yourself,But for whatYou are making of me. I love youFor the part of meThat you bring out;我爱你,因为你能唤出,我最真的那部分。I love youFor putting your handInto my heaped-up heartAnd passing over我爱你,因为你穿越我心灵的旷野,如同阳光穿越水晶般容易。All the foolish, weak thingsThat you can’t helpDimly seeing there,And for drawing outInto the light我的傻气,我的弱点,在你的目光里几乎不存在。 All the beautiful belongingsThat no one else had lookedQuite far enough to find. I love you because youAre helping me to makeOf the lumber of my lifeNot a tavernBut a temple;我爱你,因为你将我的生活化腐朽为神奇。 Out of the worksOf my every dayNot a reproachBut a song. I love youBecause you have doneMore than any creedCould have doneTo make me goodAnd more than any fateCould have doneTo make me happy. You have done itWithout a touch,Without a word,Without a sign. You have done itBy being yourself.Perhaps that is whatBeing a friend means,After all.

I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud|华兹华斯

William Wordsworth I wandered lonely as a cloudThat floats on high o'er vales and hills,When all at once I saw a crowd,A host,of golden daffodils;Beside the lake, beneath the trees,Fluttering and dancing in the breeze. Continuous as the stars that shineAnd twinkle on the Milky Way,They stretched in never-ending lineAlong the margin of a bay:Ten thousand saw I at a glanceTossing their headsin sprightly dance. The waves beside themdanced, but theyOut-did the sparking waves in glee:A Poet could not but be gayIn such a jocund company:I gazed—and gazed—but little thoughtWhat wealth the show to me had brought:粼粼波光也跳着舞,水仙的欢欣却胜过水波;与这样快活的伴侣为伍,诗人怎能不满心快乐! For oft, when on my couch I lieIn vacant or in pensive mood,They flash upon that inward eyeWhich is the bliss of solitude; And then my heart with pleasure fills,And dances with the daffodils.

The Language of Flowers

Lovers of flowering plants and shrubs we have had by scores, but Tao Yuan-ming alone devoted himself to the chrysanthemum. Since the opening days of the Tang dynasty, it has been fashionable to admire the peony;自李唐来,世人盛爱牡丹;but my favorite is the water-lily. How stainless it rises from its slimy bed! How modestly it reposes on the clear pool,予独爱莲之出淤泥而不染,濯清涟而不妖,An emblem of purity and truth, symmetrically perfect, its subtle perfume is wafted far and wide, while there it rests in spotless state,中通外直,不蔓不枝,香远益清,亭亭静植,Something to be regarded reverently from a distance, and not be profaned by familiar approach. In my opinion, the chrysanthemum is the flower of retirement and culture; the peony, the flower of rank and wealth; the water-lily, the Lady Virtue sans pareille. Alas; few have loved the chrysanthemum since Tao Yuan-ming; and none now love the water-lily like myself; whereas the peony is a general favorite with all mankind.

Christina Georgina RossettiSomewhere or other there must surely beThe face not seen, the voice not heard,The heart that not yet —never yet— ah me!Made answer to my word.Somewhere or other, may be near or far;Past land and sea, clean out of sight;Beyond the wandering moon, beyond the starThat tracks her night by night. Somewhere or other, may be far or near; With just a wall, a hedge, between; With just the last leaves of the dying yearFallen on a turf grown green.
