He works as a civil engineering officer in the urban planning commission of our city.  To be more specific, he is a senior officer, whose main responsibility is to approve municipal planning projects, such as road plans and design, and supplementary facilities of railway stations and airports.  His job is useful and important because it directly affects the life of people who live in our city. First and foremost, his job ensures our safety. His daily work involves planning and overseeing construction efforts, in order to make sure structures are constructed in the safest manner. We are all aware that serious design flaws and construction malpractice can lead to serious safety hazards. So it’s important that we have someone who makes sure that the chances of such things happen are minimized.  Besides, his job makes sure our life is convenient and comfortable. Take traffic as an example, a lot of traffic jams are caused by stupidly designed roads and traffic signals. This is partly because the effort we put in urban planning was not in pace with the development of the city. Now with people like him, who are delegated to make improvements, I am confident that we’ll see fewer annoying road designs that make no sense.  In a word, we live in a country with a large population and relatively little land. The government is investing a huge amount in infrastructure every year. His job is certainly an area progressing at a fast pace and of growing importance in China.

【口语救生圈Alex课堂】新题讲解之“一天假期”

Describe something you would do if you were given a day off. You should say: where you would go; what you would do there; who you would go with; and explain how you think you would feel at the end of this day. I haven’t had a day off in months, so the thought alone is thrilling! Without a doubt, I would plan to do nothing! I mean, I would chill out at home to be a couch potato and to be as messy as I could. Because that is what taking a day off really means, isn’t it? To have a rest for my body and my soul. First of all, I definitely would shut my alarm off! Then I could wake up till noon, to catch up on my sleep debt. Then, for the rest of the day, I might just lie in bed, watch some vulgar TV series, or maybe I could treat myself with homemade Margaritas. Ideally, the day would end up with a long bubble bath. If all of these could be fulfilled, I think I would be energetic when the day ended. Because like I mentioned, I seldom have a day off and I work 24/6. Normally on my only day off, I have to catch up on some errands, like doing grocery shopping or household chores. So basically, I am still worn out every day.
