The Very Unique Golfing Offer In Madeira - The Greenprint

The Very Unique Golfing Offer In Madeira - The Greenprint

Episode Description Brought to you by Toro In this episode, we head to the striking Island of Madeira, an autonomous region of Portugal located off the northwest coast of Africa. While Madeira isn't traditionally thought of as a golf destination, it carries nearly 100 years of golfing history and features three courses across two islands—Palheiro, Santo da Serra, and Porto Santo. The islands have also played host to the Madeira Open on the European Tour for many years. And with a fourth course under construction at Ponta do Pargo, Madeira's golf future looks brighter than ever. (Stay tuned for an upcoming episode on that spectacular project.) This episode focuses on "Golf in Madeira"—both the golf experience itself and the company of the same name. Our first guest, Andre Rodriguez, owner of Golf in Madeira, shares insights into: The unique character of golf on the island What makes each course distinct Why Madeira offers much more than a stand-alone golf holiday Beyond golf, Andre highlights Madeira's incredible range of activities, including whale and dolphin watching, surfing, hiking, mountain biking, and more. We're then joined by Henrique Duarte of Irrimac, the Toro distributor for the region, and Ricardo Abreu, CEO of Santo da Serra. They take us through the story of Santo da Serra's history and the extraordinary challenge they faced when trying to create an irrigation solution for the course—and the surrounding community—when it was believed no workable solution existed. Together with Toro, they found one. If you're searching for an exciting, evolving, and authentic golf destination, Madeira deserves a spot on your map.   https://www.golfinmadeira.com/ https://www.palheironatureestate.com/palheiro-golf.html https://santodaserragolf.com/ https://portosantogolfe.com/   A big thanks to our Show Partner - Toro Check them out here!   https://www.golfclubtalk.uk/the-green-print/ https://www.instagram.com/thegreenprintgolf/ https://www.linkedin.com/company/the-greenprint-golf/?viewAsMember=true www.golfclubtalk.uk golfclubtalkuk@gmail.com   Support us here: https://buymeacoffee.com/gctuk   Sign up to our Newsletter here

Thad Layton on his Spectacular Tour of English Courses - The Greenprint 16

Fresh off an incredible 20+ course tour of southern England and the Midlands, Thad shares the motivations behind the trip, how he organized it, and the design lessons he's bringing back to his own work. Rob Climas - Leading a Long Term Strategy at North Hants - GCTUK 128

In the final episode of our mini-series featuring General Managers from clubs across the UK, we sit down with our fourth guest, Rob Climas, GM of North Hants Golf Club in Hampshire. Famous as the home club of Justin Rose – and with this conversation recorded in the Justin Rose Room itself – North Hants offers members a truly complete package: a superb golf course, a welcoming clubhouse, and first-class supporting facilities. Leighton and Rob discuss the advantages of bringing experience from a commercial background into the private members' world, and why long-term planning – sometimes looking as far ahead as 30 to 40 years – is critical to the continued success of a modern golf club. They also touch on some of the recent course improvements overseen by architect Tom McKenzie, most notably a major bunker reconstruction project. Rob is a deep thinker and an experienced GM who, alongside his Board and excellent team, is steering North Hants in an exciting direction. This episode provides valuable insight into what it takes to balance tradition with progress and ensure a club thrives for generations to come. https://www.northhantsgolf.co.uk/   Connect with Us: Instagram: @golfclubtalkuk Website: Golf Club Talk UK https://www.linkedin.com/in/leighton-walker-2708b627/   A big thanks to our partner  - Toro Click here for more information   https://eddiebullockgolf.com/   Support us here: https://buymeacoffee.com/gctuk Rate & Review Please leave a 5-star review and share this episode with your golf circle!

GCMA Insights on GCTUK - Finance for Golf Clubs

GCMA Insights on GCTUK - Finance for Golf Clubs

This month we're diving into the topic of Finance at Golf Clubs – with a particular focus on capital projects and asset finance. We're joined by Malcolm Pennycott of Golf Finance, who brings his expertise to help demystify a subject that many clubs find challenging. Finance can be a tricky area, especially for member-based clubs, where there is often hesitation or even fear around taking on debt. In this episode, we explore: The types of projects and assets that can be financed. Why irrigation and water storage have become such a hot topic in recent years. How clubs can approach funding projects that may not be achievable without debt. The importance of good governance in making sound financial decisions. How to present a strong case to your Board and members when seeking approval. This is an important conversation around an area that isn't talked about nearly enough in our industry. https://www.golffinance.co.uk/ https://www.gcma.org.uk/conference-2025/   Connect with Us: Instagram: @golfclubtalkuk Website: Golf Club Talk UK https://www.linkedin.com/in/leighton-walker-2708b627/   Support us here: https://buymeacoffee.com/gctuk

Thad Layton & Employing the Design & Build Method - The Greenprint Episode 9

Thad Layton & Employing the Design & Build Method - The Greenprint Episode 9

Leighton recently sat down with renowned golf course architect Thad Layton at the stunning Walton Heath Golf Club to discuss Thad's career journey, design philosophy, and his exciting transition into launching his own design firm. The conversation then dove into one of the most important and evolving topics in modern golf architecture: the "design and build" method vs. the traditional "design and contractor" approach. With more courses opting for design and build, Thad shares valuable insights into why this method is gaining traction—particularly its ability to foster creativity, ensure design intent is preserved on-site, and deliver a more unified final product. Thad also shared highlights from his current tour through the south of England, where he's been playing many of the region's iconic heathland and links courses. He reflects on what he's learned from these historic sites and how they continue to shape his perspective as a designer. To cap things off, Leighton and Thad took to the course themselves to experience Walton Heath firsthand—one of the finest examples of heathland golf and a source of inspiration in its own right.   A big thanks to our Show Partner - Toro Check them out here!   https://thadlaytondesign.com/ https://www.instagram.com/thad.layton/   https://www.golfclubtalk.uk/the-green-print/ https://www.instagram.com/thegreenprintgolf/ https://www.linkedin.com/company/the-greenprint-golf/?viewAsMember=true www.golfclubtalk.uk golfclubtalkuk@gmail.com   Support us here: https://buymeacoffee.com/gctuk   Sign up to our Newsletter here
